So often, as people grow older and families move away, memories of our loved ones are lost to us, or we don’t have time to sit down with those closest to us and just take the time to simply listen to their stories. 

 

This personal service is a way for you to share your most treasured memories with your family, and to leave a legacy of who you are;  not just as a mum or dad, wife, husband, partner or grandparent, but as an individual.

 

With four hours of structured questioning and focussed conversation, valuable detail will be gathered to enable me to put together your comprehensive mini biography complete with your important photographs.

What's involved in the process?

You'll be sent a pre-interview questionnaire to fill in.  This identifies key people and dates in your family.  By completing this before our first interview, it ensures that our one-to-one interview focusses on your life rather than having to simply gather genealogical data.  It will also enable me to complete your five-generation family tree.

We will have two face-to-face interviews which will last for four hours in total.  I'll ask questions about your life and give you lots of time to reminisce, as well as giving you a couple of things to think about for our second interview.  Before our second interview, I'll ask you to gather together some personal photographs of key events in your life.

At the end of our second interview, I'll compose your 5,000 word mini-bio and give you a draft of it just to make sure all the details are correct.  Once you have approved that, I'll format it together with many of your photographs  Your final completed document will also include your family tree.

If you wish to include a Farewell Ceremony page, we'll work on this, too.  It will include details of music and readings that you'd like to have at your farewell ceremony.  Although not everyone wants this, it is an extremely useful document to have and can take a huge amount of pressure off your family. 

What is the cost of the Remember Me service?

The price of this service is £350 and that includes everything detailed above.  Your will receive two copies of your document:  one of these copies is presented in a bound folder and is for your own safe-keeping; the other copy is in a plastic sleeve.  This is for you to decide what to do with, but is usually given to a close family member or your solicitor.  Many people opt to have pre-paid funeral plans nowadays and give this copy to their funeral director to ensure their wishes are to hand when the time comes for a farewell ceremony.  If you'd prefer to have your mini-biography hard-bound, this is available as an additional cost, as is the option to have a longer biography prepared.

How long does the whole process take to complete?

Availability for this service is limited but your biography will usually be completed within 4 – 6 weeks of your first interview.  In some exceptional circumstances there may be a delay and, if this is the case, you will be advised in advance of the expected timescale.   I am aware that sometimes a biography can be requested as a matter of more urgency, so if this is the case, please let me know and I will do my very best to accommodate you.  Please use the contact form on my website to get in touch either by email or telephone.
